UA Scientist to Bring Tiny Sea Life from Gulf to Campus to Study Oil Spill's Impact
A University of Alabama molecular biologist will soon bring dozens of tiny, transparent animals who live in Gulf Coast waters back to his campus laboratory as part of an effort to better understand the oil spill's long-term impact on the coastal environment and creatures living there. Water Bottle Facts
• In the USA, more than 60 million plastic bottles are thrown away EVERYDAY!
• 9 out of 10 plastic bottles are discarded in non-recyclable trash.
• 2 million tons of discarded plastic bottles end up in landfills each year.
• It takes about 1.5 million barrels of oil to make the water bottles Americans use each year, approximately the amount of oil it takes to fuel 100,000 cars a year.
